Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be a member of Trafford Library service to view material in Local Studies?
No, everyone is welcome to use the service; however if you require archive material you will be asked for your personal details. Our location and opening hours are available on the Trafford website.

Can I request archive material over the telephone or by e mail?
Yes, we do however require 24 hours notice for the production of archives.

Am I allowed to photocopy material held by Local Studies?
Yes if the material is suitable for copying and where there are no copyright restrictions.

Can I use my digital camera to copy material held by Local Studies?
Copying is not allowed where the material is in a fragile condition or is vulnerable to damage by heat and light (e.g. photographs)
For material which is suitable for copying you can use your camera to take images, subject to copyright restrictions. There is a daily charge to use this service – please see our information sheet on Self Service Photography.

If I am unable to visit Trafford Local Studies in person, what choices do I have?
We offer a fee paying research enquiry service - please see our information sheet on fees and charges. If material is suitable for copying we can copy it on your behalf, subject to copyright restrictions.
