About the catalogue
Trafford Local Studies collects and preserves archives and printed material
from the towns and rural areas, which since 1974 make up the Metropolitan
Borough of Trafford. These areas are Altrincham, Sale, Stretford, Urmston,
Bowdon, Hale, Timperley, Carrington, Dunham Massey, Partington and Warburton.
The collection consists of both current and former town council records and
includes books, journals, original documents, photographs and maps and plans.
The records cover all aspects of life and local government in the Trafford
area dating from the 16th century to the present day.
Records that are located in Trafford Local Studies are accessible during
opening hours, whereas original material located in the archives requires 24
hours notice for production.
Material in the collection which is of special interest, includes the 15
detailed plans of the Township of Altrincham surveyed for the purposes of the
Local Board of Health (1852) and the Sale Moor Enclosure Award (1805).
Please note that, the Local Studies catalogue is part of an ongoing project
and as such does not represent all of our holdings.
