TitleStretford Old Prize Band
DescriptionStretford Old Prize Band at a concert in the Civic Theatre, July 1927.

The postcard is accompanied by a photocopy of a page in a book (unknown) showing a copy of the same photograph and the following text: 'Stretford's Old Prize Band is shown here in July 1927 at a concert in the Civic Theatre, celebrating the band's fiftieth anniversary. Earlier called the 'Church Band', it was commonly called 'Rogerson's' - the conductor, chairman, treasurer and three bandsmen bearing that name. The four-manual organ had been installed by Mrs. Rylands. It had a small, town-gas engined pump, later changed to an electric pump. The connection between the band and the organ is that Nellie, the sister of bandsman Joe Hampson, married Reg Tither, manager of Jardine's of Old Trafford, who made the organ'.

Handwriting on the bottom states: 'Joe Hampson. Died 1992, is lived Park Rd Stretford seated left of the conductor.'
